Golfstore Winter Meeting 2027

Golfstore Winter Meeting 2027 will take place on the Algarve coast, in the beautiful resort town of Vilamoura, Portugal.

We will be staying at Hilton Vilamoura As Cascatas, an excellent choice thanks to its ideal location near Pinhal Golf Course, where all training sessions will be held. For those who wish to explore beyond the hotel, the vibrant marina is just a short taxi ride away, offering a fantastic selection of restaurants, pubs, and bars, as well as the renowned Vilamoura Casino.

In addition to Pinhal Course, we will also play the prestigious Old Course, as well as the Millennium Course and Laguna Course.

Beyond these four courses, Vilamoura and the surrounding area boast a wide selection of outstanding golf courses, making it a true paradise for golf enthusiasts. The Algarve is an extremely popular destination for Scandinavians, many of whom choose to spend the colder months in this part of Portugal, known for its mild and pleasant climate.

    Pinhal Golf

Pinhal Golf is one of Vilamoura’s most well-known and appreciated golf courses. It opened in 1976 and was originally designed by Frank Pennink. In 1985, the course underwent a significant modernization by Robert Trent Jones Sr., introducing longer holes and a more strategic layout.

A rolling parkland course with character

The course winds through gently undulating terrain, where umbrella pines and Atlantic pines both line the fairways and are at times strategically placed near the greens. The result is a course that places high demands on precision and thoughtful strategy rather than sheer distance. Club selection is often crucial.

    Challenging yet fair play

With a total length of 6,353 meters from the white tees and a par of 72, Pinhal offers a balance between challenge and playability. Water comes into play on five holes, but without dominating the course’s character—making it enjoyable and tactically interesting for both mid-handicap players and more experienced golfers.

    Clubhouse with a view

One of the highlights of a visit is the inviting clubhouse, where the spacious veranda offers panoramic views of the driving range and practice areas. The renovated facilities provide a relaxed and pleasant way to round off the day.

    The Old Course

The Old Course in Vilamoura is one of the Algarve’s most iconic and historic golf courses—often referred to as the region’s own “Grande Dame.” The course opened in 1969 and was designed by British architect Frank Pennink, who created a classic parkland layout set amid Vilamoura’s majestic pine forests. To this day, it remains an elegant masterpiece, defined by its natural surroundings, strategic design, and carefully considered improvements over the years.

A classic parkland course with strategic challenges

This 18-hole, par-73 course winds its way through towering umbrella pines, following gently rolling terrain. Precision off the tee and accuracy on approach shots to small, well-protected, and often elevated greens are key. From the back tees, the course measures 6,254 meters and offers a playing experience where strategy and course management outweigh sheer power.

    Thoughtful modernization and memorable holes

Over the years, the Old Course has been updated with great care, including a major renovation by Martin Hawtree in the late 1990s. Thanks to continuous upgrades, high maintenance standards, and respect for its natural setting, the course maintains its position as one of Portugal’s most appreciated golf experiences.

Among its many memorable holes, the par-3 4th stands out, requiring a precise shot over water. The combination of distinctive design, challenging play, and a calm, scenic atmosphere makes the Old Course a natural choice for golfers seeking an authentic and classic Algarve experience.

    Millennium Golf

Millennium Golf is one of Vilamoura’s most popular and highly regarded golf courses. Since opening in 2000, it has established itself as a natural part of the Algarve’s rich golf offering. This 18-hole, par-72 course, designed by Martin Hawtree, stretches approximately 6,176 meters from the men’s tees and offers a playing experience that combines playability, variety, and scenic surroundings.

Course character – open design meets pine forest

Millennium offers two distinctly different playing experiences. Most of the course is open and inviting, making it accessible and ideal as an introduction to golf in Vilamoura.

Between holes 3 and 7, the character changes as the layout moves through a denser pine forest. Here, the fairways narrow and accuracy becomes crucial—reminiscent of neighboring courses Old Course and Pinhal—adding an extra technical dimension to the round.

Water hazards, finishing holes, and club facilities

Millennium also features several beautifully positioned water hazards that influence play strategically. Particularly challenging are holes 17 and 18, where lakes demand careful shot selection, as well as the scenic par-3 6th hole.

The course is well maintained and shares a modern clubhouse with the neighboring Laguna course. Facilities include a driving range, putting green, golf shop, restaurant, and options to rent clubs and trolleys.

Millennium suits golfers of all levels—from those who appreciate a more open and forgiving layout to players seeking technical challenges among trees and water. Its combination of varied design, tranquil setting, and high playability makes it a natural choice for a golf trip to Vilamoura.

    Laguna Golf

Laguna Golf in Vilamoura offers a round with a distinct links-style character, set across a low-lying coastal landscape where both water and wind continually influence play. Designed by American architect Joseph Lee and inaugurated in 1990, the open layout stands in clear contrast to the other courses in the area. Here, you’ll encounter minimal tree cover, numerous water hazards, and strategically placed bunkers that define the course’s unique identity.

A course shaped by water and wind

Water hazards come into play on 11 of the 18 holes, creating both beautiful views and strong strategic depth. Combined with the open terrain and frequent coastal winds, parts of the round take on a true links-like feel, where precision, ball flight, and creativity are rewarded.

    Wide fairways but challenging greens

Laguna is relatively forgiving off the tee thanks to its wide fairways, but the level of difficulty increases closer to the greens. A total of 79 bunkers, together with several raised greens, make approach shots varied and technically demanding.

    Nature-rich experience and shared facilities

The large lakes not only serve as playing hazards but also attract a rich variety of birdlife and other water-based species, adding a calm, nature-oriented atmosphere to the round. Laguna shares its clubhouse and practice facilities with the neighboring Millennium course, providing access to excellent amenities including a driving range, putting and chipping greens, restaurant, and pro shop.
